About Me

Hi there! Thanks for visiting my website. I'm Dana Lutz, a weaver and textile artist based in South Florida. Otterwoven was born after a life-changing trip my husband and I took to Peru, where I discovered and fell in love with the art of weaving. Though I've always had a passion for creativity, I don’t have formal training in textiles. Instead, I trust my instincts—and I’ve come to believe that weaving is a hidden talent embedded in my DNA.

My work blends traditional weaving techniques with a contemporary sensibility, transforming them into both functional textiles and artistic expressions. In a world that constantly urges us to speed up, I prefer to take a different path (I am, after all, a proud Gen-Xer) and embrace the slow, mindful rhythm of the weaving process.

The name "Otterwoven" is a playful tribute to my favorite animal—the otter. When my kids were little, they were obsessed with otters (and I’ve always been a fan of Emmett Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas, if you know, you know). Contrary to the dad jokes I hear at every market I attend, there’s no small army of otters weaving away in my studio—just me!

I consider myself a multi-passionate creative with interests both fiber-related and beyond. I love sharing my weaving journey on social media to help others connect with and appreciate this timeless craft. You can find me on Instagram at @otterwoven_bydana.
