New Rigid Heddle Weaving Pattern: The Hagelslag Scarf

New Rigid Heddle Weaving Pattern: The Hagelslag Scarf

Now available! The Hagelslag Scarf for Rigid Heddle Weavers.

Weave a beautiful scarf with this PDF download rigid heddle weaving pattern. Suitable for advanced beginners, it uses Kitty Bea Knitting Coquina DK (a beautiful hand-dyed yarn from another local Florida maker) and a trusty staple in my stash, Gist Yarn Beam 3/2 Organic Cotton. This pattern weaves up quickly and uses a simple pick-up stick sequence to create subtle warp float "sprinkles" that embellish the surface of the scarf.

In the Netherlands, Hagelslag refers to small pieces of confectionery, similar to sprinkles, that are used as a topping for buttered bread. My moms side of the family is 100% Dutch and she and my grandma used to make Hagelslag on Rusk aka "sprinkle sandwiches" for us growing up. The little floats on the surface of this scarf reminded me of that.

Back to the pattern... This pattern includes recommended yarn, written instructions for warping and weaving, and threading details. It assumes a basic understanding how to warp and weave on a rigid heddle loom and pick-up stick knowledge is helpful, but not required. The pattern provides general information on using pick-up sticks for this particular design, making it suitable for curious beginners. Additional resources for weaving with pick-up sticks are suggested. And I'm just an email away if you have any troubles!

Please note that this is a digital download only - no physical pattern (or finished weaving) will be mailed. You will receive a PDF file upon ordering.

Please email with any questions prior to ordering an I will be happy to assist and answer any questions you may have! Happy Weaving!
